Mission RCMP, Mission Rotary Club & Camp Jubilee
In 2005, the Mission RCMP created an ongoing initiative called ESCAPe (Experience Summer Camp Adventure Program). This initiative provided youth with an opportunity to experience a week away at Camp Jubilee, located on the shores of Indian Arm. ESCAPe focused on Mission boys and girls in the age group of 10-12, who were students of School District 75 and who might not be able to attend summer camp without the assistance of the Program.
The Program created a partnership between Mission RCMP, School District 75, Camp Jubilee and a group of financial backers. In 2005, assistance was provided by the Rotary Club of Mission (Morning Meeting), the Mission RCMP's Social Committee and the Jubilee Campership Fund. This collaborative partnership pulled together enough funding to send 5 deserving youth to a week-long summer camp adventure.
The Program maintained its focus on students in School District 75 but expanded the age range to encompass the ages of 10-18. The Mission RCMP also was able to bring together an expanded list of collaborative partners which included:
- The Mission Foundation
- Rotary Club of Mission (Morning Meeting)
- Sasquatch Lions Club
- North Fraser Fire Department
- Whiskey Excavating
- Leq'a'mel Band Office
- Lowermainland Dog Fanciers Association
- Dr. William and Gloria Tyler, Inc.
- Mission RCMP Social Club
- Jubilee Campership Fund
This group financially supported 19 youth who attended Camp Jubilee for 1-2 weeks throughout the month of July. The Mission RCMP, along with the youth that attended camp, would like to extend its thanks to our collaborative partners. Without them, this program would not exist.

In 2005, the CKNW Orphans' Fund generously donated $3000 to support the Jubilee Campership Fund which provides financial assistance to deserving children to attend summer camp. Each year since, they have continued to assist the Campership Fund with a donation to assist the program.
The Orphans' Fund history dates back to 1945 when, during CKNW's second season, the station began a Christmas drive for orphans at a Protestant home in New Westminster. Due to its success, the Fund continued to grow. Today, the Orphans' Fund receives donations from communities, businesses, individuals and distributes the funds to BC charities and organizations whose commitment is to work for and with special needs children.
Thanks to contributors such as the CKNW Orphans' Fund, the Jubilee Campership Fund was able to assist over 180 children experience summer camp giving them the opportunity to grow, develop new skills and just have fun. For more information on the CKNW Orphans' Fund, please visit www.cknw.com . |
